Abstract

Sediment cysts of dinoflagellates have ability to enter to vegetative phase in water. The aim of this paper is to study of dinoflagellate germinated cysts fluctuation in the southern part of the Caspian Sea waters, which is likely to be a response to favorable conditions such as increases of sea surface temperature and nutrients. 563 water samples were collected in 2009-2010, 2011-2012, 2012-2013 to 2018-2019. The microscopic results showed that Dissodonium pseudolunula, Pyrocystis and Gonyaulax polyedra germinated cysts were observed. The percent frequency of germinated cysts in years of 2009-2010, 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2018-2019 were obtained 46, 4, 9 and 34%, respectively. The different stages of the Dissodonium pseudolunula and Pyrocystis germinated cysts formed the highest percent frequency. Increase of germinated cysts of Gonyaulax polyedra (as an indicator of warm water) compared to previous studies, probably is a reflection to increases of sea surface temperature in this region.
